It’s a story that we never like to hear. Dozens of patients in and around Bluff City, Tennessee, have been trying to get criminal charges filed against a denture dentist they say took their money and never delivered their dentures as promised.
Although a grand jury has cleared the dentist of criminal charges, questions still remain, especially from the patients who are trying to either get their money back or get their dentures.
It’s been more than a year that patients have been filing complaints with the dental board and the police Quality Denture Care’s denture dentist. They claimed the denture dentist was running a scam, taking their money for dentures that were never intended to be delivered, and he should be penalized both financially and with imprisonment.
But when a grand jury heard the evidence, it concluded that the denture dentist’s behavior was certainly “unprofessional,” but didn’t reach the level of criminal behavior. They recommended that the dental board should revoke his license and that patients should get refunds.
Although the grand jury recommended refunds to patients, it didn’t give patients any additional resources or powers to get their money back, leaving them with the same options they had before, but with additional difficulties. According to one patient who was asked to postpone a civil lawsuit from a year ago, “Now no one knows where he is, we did know this a year ago when I found his address and knew exactly where he lived and could serve him with a civil lawsuit.”
She says that she regrets her decision to postpone her own lawsuit and says, “I’m not happy…I’m not happy at all…and that’s nice…I’m livid.”
This is another important reminder to choose your denture dentist carefully. Although there are relatively few dentists out there who are this incompetent or unprofessional, there are many who provide poor quality economy dentures or just poorly fitting dentures.
