Getting new dentures means that you will have to take some time to adjust. This is normal and inevitable, because you’re transitioning from having your natural teeth to having something in your mouth that is similar, but isn’t anchored in your jawbone. The Denture Fountain of Youth® can reduce but not eliminate this transition period. Here are some things you may expect.
Irritation with dentures is normal. It takes time for your gums to adjust to supporting the denture. But it can be worse if you have dentures that don’t fit properly. Sometimes people get denture pain because their dentures don’t fit properly, and then they need to be refit. Although it’s common for traditional dentures to need to be refit, this is rare with FOY Dentures®, and you’ll find that after a short adjustment period, your minor irritation goes away and your dentures are much more comfortable.
Even properly fitted dentures can seem loose at first because the muscles that are supposed to help support them aren’t used to that new role. Because FOY Dentures® are designed to work with your muscles, this is a shorter period than with traditional dentures, but it does still take some time.
FOY Dentures® will let you eat many different foods, but possibly not right away. Chewing with dentures takes a different motion, and it takes a little while to get used to using the new motion.
The key is to stick at it and not get discouraged. It may take a little while to learn, and you may eat soft foods for the first little while, but if you keep at it, you will find that you really are able to eat almost all the same foods you enjoyed before you had dentures.
Learning to talk is another skill that requires practice. And even though it may seem hard at first, if you stick to it, you’ll find you’re able to do it as clearly as before you had dentures–and without slipping. See our tips for learning to talk with dentures.
