If you get dental implants, you don’t have to worry about dentures, right? Wrong.
You will still have implant dentures that sit atop the dental implants, and the quality of these dentures actually matters a lot more than you might think.
Many people think that the fit of your dentures matters only to help them stay in place, which dental implants will take care of. But denture fit means a lot more than just keeping dentures in place.
Dentures have to fit not just with your gums, but also with the muscles, bones, and other aspects of your bite. If they don’t fit properly, it can be the same problem as if you have imbalanced teeth. You may develop TMJ symptoms, like jaw pain, neck pain, headaches, and other symptoms.
Neuromuscular dentures are designed to take all aspects of your bite into consideration to ensure you get a balanced bite that works well and feels right.
Poorly fitted dentures cause an imbalance in forces in your bite. With regular dentures, you will feel this imbalance in the form of sore spots on your gums. Dental implants support the dentures, so you wouldn’t get a sore spot on your gums, but that doesn’t mean the imbalanced forces aren’t a problem.
Imbalanced forces can lead to increased bone resorption, and that’s true whether the force is being pushed down on a denture or on a dental implant. Even loading of your dentures means it’s less likely that one or more dental implants will fail because of excessive loading.
Imbalanced forces can also break your denture, which can happen with implant dentures as well as conventional dentures.
And then there’s the issue of whether your implant dentures will restore your face to its normal, youthful proportions. If your dentures are too short of the teeth are improperly placed, it can lead to an aged appearance, even if you have dental implants.
FOY Dentures® are designed to restore your face’s youthful proportion, giving you a more attractive appearance, something most dentures just won’t do.
