Your denture teeth can be customized the same way that dental veneers can be, to give you the best looking smile. And a key feature of the appearance of your denture teeth is their whiteness. But what is the right level of whiteness for your denture teeth?
That depends on a number of factors.
There are two perspectives people have on their dentures. Some people want to make sure that their dentures look as natural as possible. Partly this may be because they don’t want anyone to know that they have dentures. They might also think that a natural appearance is the most attractive.
Other people, though, don’t care about a natural appearance. They just want their smile to look as attractive as possible, meaning very white, very straight, and very tall teeth.
Your skin color makes a big difference to how the whiteness of your teeth is perceived. The darker your skin, the whiter your teeth are likely to look, even if, objectively, they are the same shade. Sallowness of your skin can also have an impact on the perceived color of your teeth. If your skin has yellowish tints, it will draw out yellowness in your teeth, which we have to counter with slight amounts of blueness in the teeth. This will help them look white, despite the influence of your skin color.
If you tend to go natural with your makeup, using little or no makeup, your teeth should be whiter because they have to carry the entire burden of looking white on their own. If you tend to use makeup, but prefer lighter tones of lipstick, such as pinks, we will also have to make your denture teeth brighter. If you like really dark red lipsticks, we might be concerned that your teeth will look too white and tone them down accordingly.
Again, though, we will be concerned about the presence of yellowish tones, so if your preference tends toward scarlet or vermilion, we will want to adjust the shade of your teeth accordingly.
During your consultation, we want you talk about your preferred tooth color. Your smile is an essential part of your appearance, and your appearance is essential to your lifestyle. We want to make sure that your dentures achieve the appearance you want.
