The conventional explanation for jowls and related facial aging is that they are mostly the result of the tendency of facial tissues to sag. But this explanation neglects the effect of aging on your teeth that explains why The Denture Fountain of Youth® may be able to make you look years younger.
Most plastic surgeons and dermatologists will explain that facial aging depends on a combination of three forces: changes in skin and support tissues that causes them to lose their elasticity (tendency to bounce back), the loss of facial fat, and the tendency of gravity to pull everything down.
In this explanation, jowls are caused by gravity pulling down the fat pads of your cheek until they sink below the jawbone. Parenthesis lines are caused in part by this, as the descending fat pad creates a crease at the edge of your smile and because your skin is losing elasticity, that crease tends to stay.
However, there’s another effect that contributes to these effects but hasn’t been included in this explanation: changes to your teeth over time.
When you are young, you have long teeth that hold your jaw in a certain position. Your facial tissue developed in relation to the length of your face with these full teeth. Over time, these teeth get worn down, becoming shorter. Your jaw muscles still naturally pull your jaw closed over your shorter teeth, which shrinks your face.
This means that not only are your cheek pads descending, but your jaw is moving up as well! This effect accounts for some of the facial aging in the lower third of your face.
Traditional dentures often don’t even try to correct this problem. At best, they seek to replicate the state of your teeth just before you lost them, giving you back the shrunken face you had before. At worst, they completely neglect this aspect of restoring your teeth, leaving you with an even more shrunken face.
FOY Dentures®, on the other hand, try to reproduce the size and shape of dentition that you had when you were young. We work to determine the ideal proportions of your shape and reconstruct them with dentures. This may make you look younger by renewing your jawline to a more youthful appearance.
