For many people with a partial denture, it’s quite likely that you might lose one or more additional teeth during the lifetime of that partial, and you might wonder whether you can just have new teeth added to that partial. In many cases, it’s possible, but there are a few questions you should ask to determine whether it’s the right thing to do.
Of course, it’s not always possible to add new teeth to a partial denture. This depends on whether the partial extends to the area where the new teeth are missing, what the partial denture is made out of, what kind of support the partial denture needs, especially now that it has more teeth. You also have to consider what kind of biting force you might have at the point of the new tooth.
And remember that although it may be feasible, it might also be expensive to add new teeth, sometimes more expensive than getting a new partial. And in some cases you might not get the best results by adding on to an old denture.
At the time you decided to get the partial denture, it may have been your best option, but things change, and you may now have additional options. For example, it’s possible that new technology means you’re a candidate for dental implants now, even though you weren’t before. It may also be a question of geometry–losing one or more teeth might have created a better configuration for implant dentures. Losing a tooth in a different place might mean that a dental bridge or dental implant is a good option for that tooth, even though it hadn’t been for the ones replaced by the partial denture.
And your situation may have changed, too. You may be in a better position financially to get a dental implant, or perhaps your oral health has improved, making that a better option.
And if you have lost several teeth and are looking at the loss of more, it may be time to consider the option of full dentures. We know that this is no-one’s favorite option, but sometimes this is your best option. A full set of healthy teeth can’t be beat, but if you’ve got a partial and some damaged or decaying teeth that are not long for this world, you might do better to get a clean start with a fresh set of matched dentures.
And, when you consider the benefits of The Denture Fountain of Youth®, you’ll see how moving to full dentures may be better than your current situation.
